Al Ahly defeated Enppi 1-0 on Saturday night in the Egyptian Cup round of 16 to secure a place in the competition’s quarter-finals.
Our golden substitute, Salah Mohsen, scored the only goal in the game a couple of minutes after his arrival to the pitch. We are set to face Pyramids in the quarter-finals of the competition.
First Half
We had a slow start to the game with Ahmed Abdelkader causing problems for the opponent’s defense.
We started pushing for the opening goal but Enppi’s goalkeeper had to be sharp to stop our attempts to break the deadlock.
Our most dangerous chance of the first half came after 29 minutes when Mohamed Magdy Afsha sent a beautiful cross but Abdelkader failed to finish from inside the box.
One minute later, Ayman Ashraf made a heroic clearance to stop Enppi’s striker Ibrahim Galal to keep the game scoreless.
We kept pushing forward to net the opener, and Afsha was close from breaking the deadlock but his effort went wide from the target.
Second Half
Unlike the first half, we had a strong start in the second half to score the opening goal in the game.
Akram sent a perfect cross from the right side, Sherif received the ball and tried to pass it to Abdelkader but Enppi’s goalkeeper reached the ball first.
Mosimane made his first substitution in the game as Luis Miquissone replaced Mahmoud Kahraba, who did much effort in the first 60 minutes of the game.
Five minutes later, Miquissone was close from scoring his debut goal for the Red Eagles. The Mozambican winger received Maaloul’s cross inside the box, dribbled the opponent’s goalkeeper and the defender but he failed to control the ball.
After an impressive performance in his debut game with the team, Abdelkader was substituted by Salah Mohsen. Also, Mohamed Sherif left the game to be replaced by Hossam Hassan.
Mosimane’s substitutions boosted our attacking power and we needed just three minutes to score the opening goal by Salah Mohsen.
Salah received Afsha’s ball inside the box and poked the ball under the goalkeeper’s arm to score the long-awaited goal.
Hossam Hassan doubled the score seconds before the final whistle but the goal was ruled offside.
The game ended with a 1-0 victory for our team and we booked a place in the Egyptian Cup’s quarter-finals.
